PERISTEAM HYDROTHERAPY *
What is it?
Vaginal steaming is the use of warm, relaxing steam and herbs to assist with specific gynecological concerns and for the maintenance of vaginal and uterine health. This woman’s wellness practice is also known as V-steaming, Yoni steaming, Bajos and Chai-yok.
Vaginal steaming is used as a cultural wellness practice by women in Africa, Eurasia, Oceania, and the Americas. More commonly it is used as a restorative post-partum practice, and its history starts before the colonization of women’s healing medicine and the birth of the modern medical industry.
Vaginal Steam v.s. Peristeam Hydrotherapy
Is there a difference?
Peristeam Hydrotherapy is the therapeutic use of vaginal steaming specifically designed to treat gynecological imbalances. It includes an assessment, a prescribed number of steam treatments for a designated time period, and a specialized setup with customized herbal blends.
Anyone can do a vaginal steam in the comfort of their own home. However, one steam session will not completely remedy the symptoms associated with a specific gynecological issue. Peristeam implores the expertise of certified Peristeam Hydrotherapists that have received specialized training and have the skill set to achieve maximum efficacy.
Who can steam?
Steaming is used by women in various stages of development. It is used as pre-menarche preparation for girls ages 12 and 13, so that their first period is not a painful experience filled with discomfort. It is used by adult women who have specific gynecological concerns. It’s for women who have just given birth and are in recovery, or women who have had a miscarriage and are also in recovery. Women experiencing menopause, use it to alleviate menopausal symptoms. Steaming is also used by women who have difficulty conceiving. Steam can also remedy the following:
Cramps & Clots
Fibroids & Cysts
Endometriosis
Infections
Dryness
Missing Cycles
Adhesions
PCOS
Why now?
Vaginal Steaming has been popularized by celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow within the past 5 years, however, women from indigenous communities have been using it for thousands of years, and continue to benefit from its miraculous wonders. With its introduction into mainstream culture, everyday women are now more receptive to try it and experience what all the rave is about.
Will I see results?
Peristeam Hydrotherapy is highly effective. The bottom line is that IT WORKS! According to various case studies, vaginal steaming appears to improve symptoms in over 90% of all gynecological problems and shows tremendous potential as an alternative to invasive medical procedures. Most gynecologists will tell you not to try it. Their premise is that the vagina is self cleaning and exposing the perineum and surrounding area to heat will upset the “delicate” balance and flora of the vagina. This line of thinking is faulty and simply untrue. Medical practitioners are misinformed about the practice because it is beyond their scope of training and expertise, as this is a cultural wellness practice. The Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute has commissioned the following study to provide a foundational design to explore the impact of vaginal steaming on post-partum recovery. Hopefully this will foster interest and additional medical research into the use of steam in preventive and procedural reproductive care and maternal health. Please take a look at the Fourth Trimester Vaginal Steam Study.
